The first facility of its kind in Gujarat, the Banas District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Banas Dairy) has opened a honey testing laboratory at the Banas Dairy complex in Badarpura, close to Palanpur. In addition to testing the quality and purity of its own brands Banas Honey and Amul Honey, the new lab will also be accessible to other cooperatives operating under the Amul banner.
The central government-funded internal testing facility will cut expenditures and testing time from the previous duration of 15-20 days to roughly six days.
The Banas dairy produced 1,60,533 kg of honey between 2020 and 2023.
Banas Honey was launched in December 2016, while Amul Honey was launched in September 2021.
The dairy’s processing centre carries out filtration at the normal temperature, testing and and packaging, and the Centre lays special thrust on beekeeping to encourage honey production at village-level.
