The contract for the signalling, train control, and video management systems for Chennai Metro Line-3 was awarded to Hitachi Rail STS India Pvt. Ltd. last week because it had submitted the lowest proposal.
In order to connect Madhavaram with SIPCOT 2, the new 45.81 km, primarily subterranean line of the 119.8 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will go north-south.
In August 2021, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) issued a call for bids for this contract, with a 1640-day (4.5-year) deadline and an undetermined estimate. In May, technical bids were opened, revealing 2 bidders.
Other conventional bidders, including Siemens and Alstom, were not interested in participating since this contract is being financed by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has strict requirements regarding the amount of Japanese content.
