The State Highways Department’s National Highways division has a 250 crore plan to widen the route from Karur to Coimbatore.
The Department has submitted a proposal to the Central government as part of the yearly plan to widen the road from Vellakoil to Palladam for a cost of $250 crore, source said.
It was now converting the road from Palladam to Chinthamanipudur in Coimbatore to four lanes, extending it as necessary. On the 8.2 km portion of the Palladam to Coimbatore route where the current road was not a four-lane one, work was being done to widen the road. It was a 37 crore, 18-month project that would be finished in March or April of the following year.
The Dindigul division of the NH wing of the Highways Department had also submitted a proposal to the Central government under the annual plan to widen the road from Karur to Vellakoil.
