Gujarat, AP and Himachal to get bulk drug parks

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, three bulk drug parks are being built in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh to help provide pharmaceutical firms with raw materials.

The Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers stated in response to a question during Question Hour that applications had been received from 13 States, and following an evaluation of them, these three States had been chosen.

He explained to the House that the need for bulk drug parks became apparent during the COVID-19 outbreak. The parks would lessen the nation’s reliance on foreign nations for the pharmaceutical industry’s chemical needs.

“As of now, we have given ₹300 crore each to the States. They are entitled to get ₹1,000 crore each for setting up these parks,” the Minister said.

He was responding to a question by Khammam MP Nama Nageshwara Rao on whether India was importing bulk drugs majorly from China, during COVID.
