Govt identifies 11 locations under second phase of Bharatmala Pariyojana

The government has designated 11 places around the nation for multi-modal logistics parks (MMLPs) under the second phase of the federal project Bharatmala Pariyojana, bringing the total number of such facilities in the country to 53.

The government has already planned 35 MMLPs under Bharatmala Phase-I, with the first ones set to open in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), and Bengaluru (Karnataka). Senior officials in the transport ministry indicated, on condition of anonymity, that the first two in Nagpur and Chennai will be completed by the end of 2024.

The initiative aims to improve freight and passenger transportation efficiency across the country by bridging crucial infrastructure gaps with efficient interventions such as economic corridors and multi-modal integration via motorways, logistics parks, ports, and ropeways, among other things.
