Government keen on reviving west coast refinery project: Hardeep Singh Puri

Hardeep Singh Puri, minister of petroleum and natural gas, as well as housing and urban affairs, the government is eager to revive the idea to build a mega-refinery with a capacity of 60 million tonnes per year (mtpa) on the coast of Maharashtra.

Despite support from state-run oil corporations and investment commitments from the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, India’s proposal to build a $50 billion mega refinery on the west coast never materialised (ADNOC). Due to disagreements over the purchase of property, the project has been delayed since 2018.

“When an opportunity like this is missed, it is very regrettable. We need to try and revive the project. We have sent feelers all around,” Puri said.
