The Surkha (North) lignite mines owned by Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC) in the Gujarati district of Bhavnagar have issued a request for proposals to mining companies.
Over 200 lakh tonnes of lignite are expected to be removed as part of the project, according to the company’s estimate. The corporation stated in a statement released on Thursday that the tender is currently accessible on its website.
For its lignite, GMDC is expanding its clientele among small and medium-sized businesses.
Roopwant Singh, Managing Director, GMDC, said, “Our customer base among MSMEs in textiles, chemicals, and ceramics along with captive power plants is increasing. Hence, we are increasing our lignite production this year by an additional 1.5 million tonnes even as we look to add more mines shortly. This will help us minimising the constantly increasing demand-supply gap, and catering the energy requirements in the state.”
