The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) has drawn up plans to improve the flavour of Araku coffee, pay coffee farmers more, and build a processing facility close to Narsipatnam.
Every year, sales of raw coffee beans, filter coffee, and instant coffee bring in 20 crore for the GCC. More than 3,000 farmers supply it with 1,000 to 1,500 tonnes of coffee beans from the Chintapalli and Paderu divisions, where coffee is grown on roughly 2 lakh acres.
AP Forest Development Corporation’s coffee processing facility at Narsipatnam receives procured coffee beans for curing and grading.
GCC transports clean coffee from the processing facility to Bengaluru where it is roasted and ground into instant and filter coffee.
