A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in India and Germany’s Thyssenkrupp to construct six submarines for the Indian Navy that are expected to cost about $5.2 billion.
According to the collaboration’s rules, Thyssenkrupp will be in charge of the engineering and design while Mazagon Dock would be in charge of the building and delivery of the six submarines that the Indian Navy has requested bids for.
Oliver Burkhard, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and a member of ThyssenKrupp’s management board, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, “We have established a strong and trusting relationship with India over the past decade. The submarines we constructed in the 1980s are still serving the nation today. We take great pride in this and eagerly anticipate further contributions to India’s national security. We stand prepared to answer India’s call.”
