East-West Metro’s Sealdah segment in Kolkata to open on 31 May

The East-West Metro’s Sealdah segment of the Kolkata Metro Railway is set to open on May 31.

Line 2 in Kolkata, which began in stages in March 2020, presently provides a 6.6-kilometer service from Sector V to Phoolbagan. The Commissioner of Railway Safety approved the seventh (Sealdah) station and an additional 2.3 kilometres on March 24. (CRS).

The CRS approval lasts three months. If the length is not completed by June 24 this year, Metro Railway will have to bring the team from the independent body under the civil aviation ministry that approves any new Metro project in India again.

Even as Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC), the implementing agency of the 16km East-West Metro, was preparing to open the Sealdah section around mid-April, the agencies are believed to have had a setback with the May 11 subsidence at the Durga Pituri Lane construction site.
