An ecosystem would be fostered to help Indian enterprises produce containers to support traders in the export-import (EXIM) industry, according to a recent inter-ministerial meeting in New Delhi.
The goal is to eliminate the need for containers entirely. The Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) would collaborate with the ministry of ports, shipping, and waterways (MoPSW) on the matter with a focus on cluster-based production.
Sarbananda Sonowal, the minister of ports, shipping, and waterways; Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of railways, communications, electronics, and information technology; and Mansukh Mandaviya, the minister of health and family welfare, chemicals, and fertiliser, all attended the meeting.
The meeting also discussed domestic bulk cargo transportation using inland waterways using containers. This may reduce logistics costs and handling charges, an official press release said.
