DMK govt to back Chennai-Salem greenfield corridor?

The Chennai-Salem greenfield corridor, a project that Salem resident and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has vigorously supported, is likely to receive support from the DMK administration, claimed reports.

Chief Minister M K Stalin will decide on the corridor’s implementation after hearing from elected officials, impacted households, and the collectors of Chengalpet, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Salem.

In response to a question from DMK MP S Ramalingam in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari stated that the Center was awaiting the Tamil Nadu government’s opinions.

“Chennai-Salem 6/8 lane Access Controlled Highway Project has been envisaged in Bharatmala Pariyojana with a cost of ₹7,230 crore. The state government’s views on the alignment are awaited. After the government of Tamilnadu offers its remarks on alignment, the project will be undertaken,” the Union minister said
