The Surat Metro Line-1 underground construction work got under way on On September 30 of last year.
Since that time, two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMS) dubbed “Tapi” and “Narmada” have been used to conduct tunnelling work from the Kapodra subterranean station.
The tunnelling project from Kapodra Underground to Labheshwar is now ongoing. According to the officials, the metro train will be in operation before December 2024 and will travel the famed “diamond route,” a distance of 21.61 kilometres from Dream City to Sarthana.
Project engineers have started preparing and have set a goal of doing 8 to 10 metres of tunnel work per day in order to achieve this deadline.
The construction of the slab for the Kapodra underground station has been completed, and the engineering work on the tunnel is expected to conclude by December.
The commencement of metro train operations is scheduled within the next year. Simultaneously, the second phase, encompassing an 18.74 km stretch from Bhensan to Saroli, is slated for completion by March 2025.
