Data Patterns to enter satellite manufacturing

Data Patterns, a company with its headquarters in Chennai and a primary focus on producing radars for the military, has announced plans to start producing satellites as well, according to S Rangarajan, the chairman and managing director of the business.

The company intends to construct its own spacecraft of 100 kg to 120 kg mass after developing nano-satellites and designing satellites for others, he said.

Additionally, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has given the business contracts to manufacture two deep-space surveillance radars costing 363 crore. “Data Patterns will construct them,” he said.

“India is entering deep space surveillance for the first time by creating radars to detect and protect the country’s space from any artillery strike.

Last year, the company raised ₹588 crore through an initial public offering. On December 24 last year, it made its debut on the stock exchanges at 864 a share, against the issue price of Rs 585 a share.
