Considering the conditions in Trichy, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu, has planned to produce a feasibility study to establish a suitable form of Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).
On March 21, 2022, the CMRL issued a request for proposals from qualified experts to submit a feasibility study report with traffic statistics by April 2022.
The cities chosen for the research by CMRL were Trichy, Salem, and Tirunelveli.
The project’s area and public transportation routes will be plotted as part of the proposed MRTS feasibility study to better understand the public transportation system’s capability. The demand for travel over the next 30 years will be calculated.
