Chhattisgarh looking for land for industry in Bastar region

While NMDC Steel Plant (NSP) is getting ready to open its steel factory in the area, the Chhattisgarh government is looking for land in the Bastar region for the company planning to invest.

The 3 million tonne per annum (MTPA) greenfield steel plant that NSP, a disinvested unit of NMDC, is about to commission in Nagarnar, in the Bastar district, around 350 kilometres from Chhattisgarh’s capital.

About 100 km away in the Dantewada district, NMDC’s two mechanised iron ore mines would supply the plant with its raw materials. According to NMDC officials, the factory would use cutting-edge technology to produce premium hot-rolled coils, plates, and sheets while attaining the maximum level of energy efficiency.

The steel plant has bestowed investment opportunities for the private sector to set up auxiliary industries in the region. “Over a dozen companies had shown interest in investing in Bastar, while seven had signed agreements with the Chhattisgarh government to expedite the plan,” a senior industry department official said. Now, providing land to the investors after inking the agreement has become a major challenge for the authorities.
