The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has chosen to deploy offshore wind turbines in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu in an effort to boost renewable energy and satisfy India’s rising need for electricity.
The Central government would set them up by floating international bids because the cost per MW for offshore turbines is greater due to the requirement for stronger buildings and foundations in the maritime environment. Within four months, the tenders are most likely to be floated.
According to a senior official, the Tamil Nadu locations of Dhanushkodi, Arichalmunai, Manappadu, and Kanniyakumari were chosen for the installation of offshore wind turbines. A substation using cutting-edge technology, including submerged cables, will be erected in the water to transport the electricity they create.
