Mallet Bunder, near Ferry Wharf on Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) property, will receive a substantial jetty upgrade from the national government at a cost of Rs 100 crore, which would minimise vessel waiting and berthing time.
In addition, a chemical dock of 161 crore would be built to add two million tonnes of offloading capacity for chemicals, petroleum products, and LPG. The Centre is contributing half of the cost.
Mallet Bunder extension construction will begin in October 2022 and be completed in eighteen months, according to MbPT.
The chemical berth, which is estimated to save importers $150 million per year in logistics expenditures, will be finished in March 2024.
