Business leaders recommend parallel runways, aero city and MRO facility at Chennai’s second airport

A parallel runway, an international cargo village, an aero city, and a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility should all be included at the proposed Parandur greenfield airport outside of Chennai.

At the initial discussion between the state government and stakeholders on the airport, these were some of the recommendations made to M K Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, by business leaders.

Last Monday, the State administration decided on the second airport’s site.

According to the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the airport should feature parallel runways rather than the intersecting ones at Chennai Airport to facilitate uninterrupted aircraft flow and effective management
