The nation’s second-largest state oil refiner, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), will instal 1 GW of renewable energy capacity in Rajasthan as it changes course toward meeting a net zero emission objective by 2040.
The Rajasthani government and BPCL inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the renewable energy power plant, according to a statement from BPCL. However, it didn’t specify a timeline or the amount of money that would be invested in the initiative.
The corporation has set an ambitious target of having Scope 1&2 emissions “net zero” by 2040. By 2025 and 2040, it wants to increase the size of its renewable energy portfolio to 1 GW and 10 GW, respectively.
“The MoU was signed between Bhaskar A Sawant, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Rajasthan and Shelly Abraham, Head Renewable Energy, BPCL,” the statement said.
