Boeing to establish an airplane conversion line for passenger to freighter conversion in Hyderabad

The American multinational business Boeing will soon establish an aeroplane conversion line in Hyderabad for passenger to cargo conversion, which will strengthen Telangana’s aerospace and defence sector.

This will be an original equipment manufacturer’s first use of such a facility (OEM). According to reports, Boeing and GMR Aero Technics would work together to build the 737 Boeing Converted Freighter in India. According to people familiar with the development, this will also support India’s ability to perform sophisticated MRO.

The company will work with GMR to develop the capability including training, know-how transfer over the next 18 months. However, the timing of the first airplane being converted will depend on when Boeing will have a major order from this region from customers like Indigo, SpiceJet, Blue Dart, QuikJet etc, sources disclosed.
