India has the second-largest road system in the world, behind the United States, with a total length of almost 6.2 million kilometres. About 2% of all roads are national highways, although nearly 70% of all roads have been paved thus far. Today, 350 billion dollars being invested by the government in northeastern India’s road network. It is anticipated that the yearly bitumen demand will exceed eight million tonnes. For Pörner, India has long been a significant market. Over 65 percent of India’s bitumen is currently produced in Biturox plants that Pörner has licenced. The high viscosity grades of contemporary bitumen are already produced by Biturox units in 10 of India’s 23 refineries. First-class quality bitumen plays a crucial role as an essential building material for road construction. Therefore, India’s largest company, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), is now investing in the construction of three more bitumen plants at the Paradip, Gujarat and Barauni refineries.
