Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Anshul Gupta stated that the 52-kilometer rail line connecting Sevoke in West Bengal and Rangpo in Sikkim will now be operational by December 2023.
When West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the railway minister, work on the rail route, which will feature six stops, began in 2009.
It was supposed to be finished by 2015, but it ran into difficulties due to challenging terrain and land-related issues, causing a delay in the project.
The project’s anticipated cost has risen from Rs 1,300 crore to nearly Rs 5,000 crore.
