Ashok Leyland, IIT Madras team up todevelop hybrid EVS using turbine tech

In order to develop and commercialise the “swirl mesh lean direct injection (LDI) system” for creating hybrid electrical vehicles using turbine technology, researchers at the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) and Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja group and a top manufacturer of commercial vehicles, have teamed up.

NCCRD division is an arm of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras’ .

A tiny gas turbine being developed by IIT Madras researchers at NCCRD is based on a patented combustion technology known as the “Swirl Mesh Lean Direct Injection (LDI) system.”

The onboard power would be produced by the tiny gas turbine, which was jointly developed by NCCRD and Aerostrovilos Energy, a start-up that IITM has incubated.
