Airport-Kilambakkam metro line in Chennai gets CUMTA approval

Construction for the 15.5km airport-Kilambakkam metro rail line may soon begin, as Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has approved the project.

A top CMRL official confirmed the approval and said that a government order in this regard is awaited.

Approval for the project by CUMTA means commuters will get intermodal connectivity which enables them to seamlessly switch between different transport modes like metro trains, MTC and outstation buses and airports.

The 15.5 kilometre airport-Kilambakkam metro rail line has been approved by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), thus construction could start soon.

A senior CMRL official acknowledged the permission and stated that a government directive is pending.
