Agarwal Sponge & Energy’s Sponge Iron Plant Expansion Project

Agarwal Sponge & Energy is planning a major expansion of its sponge iron plant in Kudathini, Bellary, Karnataka. The project includes expanding the sponge iron plant production from 90000 TPA to 440000 TPA, increasing power plant capacity from 12 to 24 MW, adding a new rolling mill with a production capacity of 600000 TPA, a cold mining unit with a production capacity of 600000 TPA, a steel melting shop with a production capacity of 660000 TPA, and a galvanizing unit with a production capacity of 300000 TPA. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 5100 million and it has received environment clearance. The company is also planning additional expansions to increase sponge iron production and add new induction furnaces, power plants, and a hot strip mill. The estimated investment for this expansion is Rs. 3900 Million. The machinery involved in sponge iron manufacturing typically includes a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) kiln, Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (WHRB) facility, Induction Furnaces, and a Narrow Hot Strip Mill. These machines work together to convert iron ore into sponge iron through a process of reducing the ore using gases, heating the reduced ore to remove residual elements, and rolling the resulting sponge iron into desired shapes and sizes
