Afcons Infrastructure has won the bid to build the 20.377 km subterranean Package C-2 of the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail after considerable drama in the industry’s circles (MAHSR Bullet Train).
Package C2 of the main line, which consists of around 3 km of ‘undersea’ twin tunnels below Thane Creek, will connect chainage Km 0.773 (BandraKurla Complex Station) to Km 21.150 (Shilphata Ramp). A minimum of three 14.5-meter-diameter Mega TBMs must be used by the assigned contractor.
The National High Speed Rail Company Ltd. (NHSRCL) issued two invitations for bids for this package: one in 2019 that received no responses and another in November 2021 that was subsequently cancelled in February 2022.
For the latest round, bids were invited in September 2022 with a 1888 day (5.17 years) deadline and an unknown estimate. Technical bids were opened in February to reveal 2 bidders – L&T and Afcons.
