Mano Thangaraj, the minister for dairy development of Tamil Nadu, announced that measures would be done to raise Aavin’s processing capacity to 70 lakh litres per day (LLPD).
Speaking to reporters at Aavin Illam prior to a review meeting with the regional deputy general managers, he stated that the processing capacity was currently 45 lakh litres and will be enhanced. He encouraged the officials to make sure that the strategies created to enhance processing and procurement were effectively carried out.
Aavin, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, procured 34 LLPD in total on Thursday, a significant increase over the previous month. Currently, the rest of the State consumes 15.50 LLPD of milk, compared to 14.50 LLPD in Chennai City.
The remaining milk would be utilised to make butter and skimmed milk powder, which form the backbone of Aavin’s milk supplies.
Both these products are necessary to reconstitute milk so that different variants with varied fat and non-fat content are available.
Thangaraj said that GPS equipment would be fitted on milk-carrying trucks to ensure milk is not siphoned off or its quality compromised.
Aavin Managing Director N. Subbaiyan was also present during the review
