Hero Future Energies to develop battery energy storage system in Kerala

The Kerala State Electricity Board awarded the contract to Hero Future Energies (HFE), a subsidiary of the Hero Group, to construct a 10 MW/20 MWh grid-connected energy storage project. It will be HFE’s first utility-scale battery energy storage system after completion of this project. HFE will have fifteen months to commission the project when the deal is signed.

HFE’s current portfolio includes 1.6 GW worth of wind and solar projects in India. For 2024, the company has established a five GW worldwide installed and operational capacity growth objective. In addition to traditional solar and wind projects, HFE specialises in offering renewable energy projects employing technologies including battery storage, floating solar, and green hydrogen.

“The experience gained from the 10 MW/20 MWh energy storage plant will enable us to execute similar projects with more states likely to issue storage tenders in the days ahead. We believe that storage will be integral to the next phase of growth of renewables in India and as such will continue to be a key thrust area for HFE,” reveals a source from the company.
