The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) engineers have made a breakthrough in the construction of another traffic tunnel on the Chandigarh-Manali national highway.
As part of the highway’s conversion to a four-lane roadway, a total of 14 tunnels, all double-tube, will be completed. The 1,245-meter-long tunnel between Malori and Nela, which will bypass Mandi, has been finished. On May 13, the first tunnel was completed.
On Monday, the second tunnel, which had been under construction since May of this year, was also completed. The tunnel would not only save travel time, but it will also relieve congestion in Mandi.
According to the contractor, the tunnel will be completed in a few months and it will be handed over to NHAI by February next year.
