Indian Railways increases manufacturing capacity at ICF

To reach the aim of 75 Vande Bharat trains in 75 weeks, Indian Railways is increasing the manufacturing capacity of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai from four to six Vande Bharat trains per month at a cost of Rs 130 crore.

In addition, the Railways have finalised plans to establish maintenance depots at about 14 stations along the probable 28 Shatabdi and Intercity lines where Vande Bharat would operate.

Vande Bharat depots are being built in places like Shakur Basti, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Howrah, Patna, Pune, Guwahati, Tirupati, Bilaspur, Bhopal, and Chennai.

According to the Railways, the ICF is mandated to manufacture 44 more Vande Bharat trains of which the first prototype is expected to roll out in the first week of August to be followed by the second prototype in the second week of August.
