CMRL begins construction in many core regions in the city, and Poonamallee in the western suburbs may be next.
Officials claimed that segments of roadways in places like Karayanchavadi leading to Poonamallee have been closed to begin construction on the elevated corridors, while in Porur, piers and girders are being installed on the pillars.
The Porur to Poonamallee route, which is part of the 26.1-kilometer Lighthouse to Poonamallee bypass corridor-4, is part of an elevated length of the corridor that is planned to be completed by June 2025.
“We have split the phase-2 corridors into small sections and have planned a timeline for the construction. This is to reduce traffic congestion and minimise the inconvenience for motorists as much as possible,” an official said.
