Tamil Nadu Minister for handlooms and textiles R Gandhi said in the Assembly that the government will soon create a major textile park, which will most likely be located in Virudhunagar.
It will be part of the Prime Minister’s Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks (MITRA) programme, which aims to enhance the Indian textile sector by increasing operational scale and lowering logistical costs by bringing the full value chain together in one area.
“Under the programme, the state government has filed a proposal to create a giant textile park in the Virudhunagar district,” the minister stated in response to the department’s request for funding.
