Chennai Metro Rail to begin work on Airport-Kilambakkam line next year

Chennai Metro Rail’s expansion project from Airport to Kilambakkam, which would travel through significant southern neighbourhoods including Tambaram, Irumbuliyur, Peerkankaranai, Perungalathur, and Vandalur, is expected to be finished by 2026 at a cost of 4,080 crore. Construction on the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) is expected to begin in early 2023.

The construction of the 15.3-kilometer segment along the GST Road is likely to move quickly, according to CMRL officials, because it will be an elevated line.

The 12 stations proposed for this project are Pallavaram, Kothandam Nagar, Chromepet, Mahalakshmi Colony, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, Tambaram, Irumbuliyur, Peerkankaranai, Perungalathur, Vandalur, Arignar Anna Zoo, and Kilambakkam Bus Terminus.
