MoD signs contract worth Rs 1,075 crore with BEL for retro-modification

The Government of India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) inked a contract for the retro-modification of Commander Sight of Battle Tanks-T90 for the  Indian Army.

Nine hundred and seventy-seven tanks will be retrofitted. The contract’s entire value is Rs. 1,075 crores (including all taxes and duties.)

The successful domestic creation of the Thermal Imager-based Commander Sight by IRDE, DRDO, and BEL, with increased performance over its predecessor, adds to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ agenda. This will boost domestic defence manufacture and give opportunities for the export of innovative technology.
