President Ram Nath Kovind has stated that the Narendra Modi government has approved the development of 21 greenfield airports around the country.
In his presentation to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament at the start of the Budget Session, he mentioned the country’s largest airport, which will be built in the Gautam Buddha Nagar area of Uttar Pradesh.
In December 2021, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh told Parliament that the Civil Aviation Ministry had given ‘in-principle’ approval to the construction of 21 greenfield airports across the country, including in Mopa (Goa), Navi Mumbai, Shirdi, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, and Kalaburagi, Bijapur, Hassan, and Shimoga in Karnataka.
