After the government launched a strategy for the industry, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh emerged as the top three destinations for grain-based ethanol plants, garnering over 40% of the total projects sanctioned in the past year.
Since January 2021, the Union Food Ministry has approved 196 projects with a combined capacity of 859.11 crore litres of ethanol per year, according to a government official.
According to the official, Maharashtra has gotten sanction for 35 projects with a total capacity of 107.38 crore litres, while Uttar Pradesh has 29 projects with a capacity of 108.74 crore litres and Chhattisgarh has 20 projects with a capacity of 102.3 crore litres.
