Heidelberg Cement India has opened a state-of-the-art facility to replace a portion of fossil fuels in cement production with alternative fuels (AF).
The recently commissioned AF receiving, storage, and feeding system, which cost Rs 160 million and was built at the Narsingarh Clinker Unit, will allow the company to achieve a Thermal Substitution Rate (TSR) of around 5% in the first phase, and will be gradually ramped up to achieve double digit TSR in the coming years.
This project, which is in line with HeidelbergCement Group’s overall goal, will minimise the company’s carbon footprint by reducing the use of traditional fossil fuels and boosting the use of alternative fuels. This significant achievement will result in a reduction of roughly 42,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
