Cargill has purchased an edible oil refinery in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, to better service its oil consumers in the country. Cargill’s USD 35 million investment in the facility’s acquisition and upgrade will greatly increase Cargill’s edible oil production capacity and footprint in southern India.
By May 2022, the plant should be completely operating.
Piyush Patnaik, Managing Director of Cargill said, “The newly acquired refinery gives Cargill the capability to supply refined palm oil, palm olein, vanaspati (hydrogenated vegetable oil) and sunflower oil, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of the country’s sunflower oil consumption and is currently being underserved,” said Cargill managing director Piyush Patnaik.
