Skyroot Aerospace has successfully tested Dhawan-1, the country’s first privately developed completely cryogenic rocket engine, according to the company. Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquid Oxygen are the two high-performance rocket propellants used in the engine (LoX). Solar Industries India Ltd. in Nagpur conducted the test.
The test displays the propulsion technology used in the top stage of Skyroot’s orbital vehicle, Vikram-2. LNG, a better alternative to 90% methane, is seen as the future rocket fuel. In honour of prominent Indian rocket scientist Dr. Satish Dhawan, Skyroot has christened its cryogenic engine ‘Dhawan-1.’
