ACG’s Biggest vegetarian capsules unit to come up in Maharashtra

The Narendra Modi government’s campaign to switch from animal-derived gelatin to plant-based cellulose capsules has prompted ACG, one of the world’s top capsule suppliers, to invest $800 million in the world’s largest greenfield vegetarian capsule factory in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

According to ET, Karan Singh, managing director of the Mumbai-based ACG, the company has received land from the Maharashtra government and is trying to take advantage of the Centre’s production linked incentive (PLI) plan.

The PLI plan has been expanded to include the manufacturing of empty cellulose capsules.
