The much-anticipated Agartala-Akhaura train line, which would connect India’s Northeast with Bangladesh and is 15.6 kilometres long, is expected to be finished by September 2022.
Northeast Frontier Railways’ Divisional Manager, J S Lakra, visited Nischintapur yard on Friday to monitor the project’s progress, which began in 2013 after the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding.
According to the Divisional Manager, items will be sent from one country to another via the network, and people will be able to use the service to travel afterwards.
A report said, “The railway project will link Gangasagar under the Akhaura sub-division of the Brahmanbaria district of the neighbouring country with Nischintapur in India, and from there to the Agartala railway station.”
