While work on phase 2 metro rail corridors has just recently begun in some areas, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has begun purchasing crucial equipment for driverless trains in order to complete the 118.9-kilometer line in less than five years.
CMRL issued four tenders in October to acquire tracks, overhead equipment (OHE), telecommunications, and other technologies for remote monitoring and control, as well as efficient train operations. Phase 2 of the metro rail project will be finished by 2025, according to the state budget.
A metro official said,”The 2025 deadline is stressed upon in every meeting and all efforts are being taken to meet the deadline.”
