To encourage the use of renewable energy throughout the state, the Maharashtra cabinet approved a green hydrogen policy. The first state in the nation to declare a policy for producing Green hydrogen – hydrogen created by electrolyzing water – is Maharashtra.
The cabinet also sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 8,562 crore to provide subsidies and benefits to companies generating this green energy in the coming years.
The target of the policy is to make Maharashtra a leader in green hydrogen and its derivatives ecosystem in the country, with a production target of 500 kilo tons per annum green energy by 2030.
“This will drive decarbonization across the industries, enhance energy security and also encourage exports of green fuels in the near future,” said a senior official.
The state policy is in line with the National Green Hydrogen Mission, approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022.
