At its World Glass Complex in Sriperumbudur, Saint-Gobain India is building a captive thin glass manufacturing facility for the US-based solar module maker First Solar.
“The thin glass manufacturing unit is being set up for the captive use of First Solar, which is setting up a 3.3 GW plant to make integrated photovoltaic thin film solar modules at Pillaipakkam,” stated Saint-Gobain India Glass Business MD A. R. Unnikrishnan during an interaction.
He said that the captive plant was being prepared and would be operational in six months. A capex of between 150 and 200 crore would be incurred by Saint-Gobain India.
It also happens to be the first captive plant Saint-Gobain has established on its Sriperumbudur campus for a third party.
