Union Minister lays foundation stone for harbour modernisation in Cochin

Parshottam Rupala, the Union minister of fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying, and Sarbananda Sonowal, the minister of ports, shipping, and waterways, lay the cornerstone for the project to modernise and upgrade the Cochin fishing harbour.

The development of air-conditioned auction halls, a fish dressing plant, a packing unit, internal roadways, loading and unloading platforms, offices, dorms, and a food court are among the key renovation initiatives.

A PPP component worth Rs 55.85 crore is included in the project, which also involves the construction of cold storages, slurry and tube ice factories, multi-level parking, a reverse osmosis plant, a food court, a retail market, etc.
Speaking during the event, Rupala promised that the harbour’s renovations would be finished on schedule.

The minister also said Kerala had extended all possible support to the visit to Kerala as part of the Sagar Parikrama.
