Following the significant fire incident at the Brahmapuram waste plant in March, the Kochi city corporation has decided to cancel the biomining agreement it had with Zonta Infratech Pvt Ltd.
The blacklisting of the company was also decided at the council meeting on Tuesday.
The state government had previously recommended that the corporation terminate its contract with the private company due to the unsatisfactory and subpar progress of Brahmapuram’s biomining of legacy trash.
“We had given Zonta multiple notices pointing out flaws in the work before the fire broke out and after the incident.
A few days ago, we served a notice seeking explanation why it had failed in executing the work properly. Zonta’s reply was not satisfactory and that’s why we decided to scrap the deal,” said mayor M Anil Kumar.
