One of Asia’s largest train wheel production operations is now being set up through a partnership between Titagarh Waggons and Ramkrishna Forgings, an official said.
Ramkrishna Titagarh Rail Wheels Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), will outfit the plant with cutting-edge German technology and equipment, he said.
Umesh Chowdhary, vice-chairman and managing director of Titagarh Waggons, told PTI, “We will establish a two lakh wheel per annum capacity factory, which will be the largest railway wheel plant in Asia, if not the world, outside of China.
According to him, the capital expense for the plant will be around Rs 1,000 crore.
We have not finalised the location yet, as a study is underway to identify the best cost-effective location. The decision will be taken after consultation with the railways,” he said.
