UltraTech & PRESPL sign agreement to expand use of agricultural waste as a fuel in cement manufacture

UltraTech Cement, India’s largest producer of grey cement, white cement, and ready-mix concrete, has announced the signing of a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd (PRESPL), the country’s largest biomass aggregation and densification company with a forward-integrated value chain.

The agreement is part of UltraTech’s efforts to decarbonize its operations, and it intends to considerably increase the use of biomass in place of fossil fuels such as coal in UltraTech’s industrial processes.

PRESPL will use its technological competence to replace coal-based systems with biomass-based processes under the terms of the agreement.
