The world’s two largest steel producers, ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, have indicated their desire to establish a facility in Konkan through their joint venture, Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel (AMNS). According to a statement from the state government, the business has requested 5000 acres of suitable land in Konkan and has expressed interest in investing Rs 80,000 crore in the region.
The Sahyadri state guest house hosted a meeting between the company’s top officials, Deputy Chief Minister DevendraFadnavis, and top bureaucrats from several state government ministries. Government authorities claimed that the meeting came after the corporation expressed interest in establishing a facility in the state.

During the discussions, Fadnavis said that principally about 1000 acres of land from the area bordering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg district can be offered to the company. Hence it was decided to have a separate meeting to decide upon procedural aspects related to finalizing the location and land acquisition for the additional requirement of the land can be organized with the officials from maritime board and MIDC.
